Lola the Lost Lizard & Other Writing Prompts

“Not all those who wander are lost.”   --J. R. R. Tolkien

Have you ever been lost—literally or figuratively? Today’s writing prompts have two things in common: each has something to do with the word “lost,” and each prompt is a picture.

We’ll start with the story of Lola, the lost lizard:

Emotionally lost can feel even worse than physically so, don’t you think?

The opening quote comes from Tolkien's poem that begins with, All that is gold does not glitter,” which could inspire several writing prompts itself.

Picture Prompts - A Policewoman & More

We've all heard the saying: a picture is worth 1,000 words. In the case of today's photo prompts, who knows how many words you may write? Take a look at today's pictures and perhaps you'll be inspired to write a story, article, essay, or poem.

Rising Water & Other Writing Prompts

Your mission, fellow writer, should you choose to accept it, is to pick a prompt that intrigues you and freewrite on it for ten or fifteen minutes. Don't stop, try not to cross-out, and go with the story in whatever way it presents itself. Just write!

--The water was rising fast....
--My favorite television show....
--Jane said, "No, Tim, I'm not leaving. I'm...."
--Combine a pumpkin, a boulder, and a bookmark in a story or poem.
--The room was dark....
--If your traveling options are to drive or fly, which do you prefer?

Photography and Writing

Those of us who like to write are often also involved in other creative pursuits - painting, dancing, acting, and so on. I love photography. It's an art form in its own right, and it's also a wonderful way to take visual notes. Take my photos from Friday, for instance, at the Clark County Heritage Museum. What stories do these pictures tell?
